Successful investing has 4 important steps:
1. Set your goals 2. Develop your plan 3. Action your plan 4. Review your plan We explore each of these 4 steps in more details below. 1. Set your goalsRenowned author Stephen Covey says in his book, The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, "Begin with the end in mind." This applies very well when it comes to your investments. You need to first think about your life, your life goals, what you would like to achieve in life. The common goals for investing, i.e. what you should be asking yourself, are:
- At what age would I like to retire? How much money do I need in my old age? - Which school would I want to send my children to? Public school or private school? Would my kids want to study overseas? - How can I continue to afford medical aid when I get older? - When do I want to buy a house? When would I like to upgrade my house? - When would I like to buy a car? When would l want to get a new car? - What is the budget for my family's next overseas holiday? - What legacy would I like to leave behind? For my family, my community and the society? You should write down your goals, be specific about your goals. For example, instead of just saying you would like to retire at age 65, state that you would like to retire in Cape Town at age 65, with a monthly income of R50,000 in today's money terms. Another example: Instead of saying you would like to move to a bigger house, describe the house you would like to move into. Say you would like to move to move to a 4-bed house in Waterfall Estate, valued at about R5,000,000, in 3 years' time. Writing down your goals on a piece of paper or in your notebook will help you crystalise your vision for your life, prompt you into action, and later on serves to benchmark your progress against your goals. 2. Develop your planThere are a myriad of investment options out there, both locally and offshore. So which tools and products should you use? Fixed deposits, savings accounts, unit trusts, ETFs, property, shares, endowment, warrants, franchises, businesses? Woolworths shares or Pick n Pay?
We as Financial Planners, equipped and updated with knowledge, product news, market news and analytical tools, help you navigate and pick the right products and funds in developing your investment plan. We have done the homework, so you can spend less time on finding out which investments are right for you, rather you can spend more time with your family and people that are important to you. 3. Action your planOnce you have developed a financial plan, it is time to action on it. Open an investment account, sign up for an investment policy, commit your money and debit orders. Let the products, money and time do the work for you, to achieve your goals.
We will help put your plan into action, by advising you on the products and funds, preparing the necessary documents and processing your applications with the relevant life insurance companies and investment providers. 4. Review your planOnce you have put your plan into motion, it is important to regularly review your progress against your initial plan. You should review your plan and your financial progress at least annually, with the help of a financial adviser.
As your circumstances change, such as getting a promotion, getting married, having your first baby, starting a new business or getting an inheritance, you should review your plan to ensure it stays relevant and up to date. At the same time, you should also review the progress of your investment portfolio, in terms of its growth and actual returns, to check if it is on track to help you realise your goals in the future. |

Our core purpose
To provide clients with investment advice and wealth management solutions.
Our investment guiding principles
Long-term capital protection |
Our primary objective is to protect the value of your wealth, to ensure your wealth grows at least in line with inflation, so that your wealth does not shrink in real terms due to the adverse effect of inflation.
In South Africa, we expect the long-term official CPI inflation rate to be 6%. However the inflation rate experienced by our aggregate wealth clients is closer to 10% (CPI+4%). We must therefore ensure our client’s wealth achieves an annualised return of 10% over the long term, after fees. |
Capital preservation in US Dollars |
US Dollar is the reserve currency of the World. We design your wealth management solution with capital preservation in US Dollar terms in mind.
For South Africans, over the long term the South African Rand depreciates against the US Dollar. We will invest your money to ensure your wealth is maintained in US Dollars. |
Value Investing |
We believe in the Warren Buffet school of value investing, that is to buy assets at a price below their intrinsic value, and sell them when they are overpriced relative to their intrinsic value. Asset managers that truly believe the value-investing philosophy and execute it well, will demonstrate superior investment returns over the long term.
We partner with value managers with a demonstrable long-term track record. |
Optimise risk-adjusted returns |
Investment is an activity with risks and uncertainties. The first lesson in Investing 101 tells us that high returns are associated with high risks, and low returns are associated with low risks.
However through our proprietary technologies and risk management, We will invest your money with asset managers and funds that have proven to provide enhanced returns with lower downside risks over the long term. |
